Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take before breakfast or 1-2 hr after breakfast.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines. History of CV disease eg, CAD, arrhythmias, CHF, uncontrolled HTN; drug abuse. Hyperthyroidism; glaucoma; agitated states. Currently or w/in 2 wk use of MAOIs. Pregnancy & lactation.
Discontinue use if new, unexplained symptoms of dyspnea, angina pectoris, syncope or lower extremity edema develops. Primary pulmonary HTN; serious regurgitant cardiac valvular disease; mild HTN. Avoid late evening medication due to possible insomnia. Development of tolerance; risk of abuse & dependence. Not recommended to be co-administered w/ other drugs, OTC & herbal products for wt loss, serotonergic agents eg, SSRIs. Concomitant use w/ fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine; alcohol; insulin or oral hypoglycemics. May impair ability to drive & operate machines. Hepatic or renal impairment. Not recommended in ped patients <16 yr & elderly.
